As urban areas expand worldwide and become densely populated, there is a growing need for building water wise cities. The International Water Association (IWA) has launched the Principles for Water-Wise Cities based on long-term studies and are encouraging water professionals to expand these principles and promote innovations in practices across the world.
In this hybrid-seminar, the principles for building water wise cities are introduced and corresponding solutions are outlined. Towards the internationally common goal and stressing the limitation of available water resources in a Chinese megacity, a strategy of Water Cycle Management at local basin scale was proposed. Through an analysis of the constraints and potential countermeasures, the envisaged source enlargement plan was formulated and largely incorporated into a water city restoration project scheme.
